Research and analysis of the studio project site located in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans through an exploratory drawing. Drawings have the potential to communicate a wide range of ideas simultaneously. A drawing can on the one hand illustrate descriptive information about a subject, such as size and physical characteristics; and on the other hand, has the power to communicate the more elusive traits that deal with culture, atmosphere or time. We explore both of these possibilities through a process of iterative and layered drawing.
The drawing consists of multiple layers of information that demonstrate research, analysis and understanding of the Lower Garden District and its relationship to New Orleans and the broader region. Layers include, but are not limited to: history, culture, urban fabric, transportation, hydrology, geology, and environment (sun, wind, rain). The composition consists of lines, color, texture, history, and traced diagrams.
